NHSDC'S PARTNERS

 

NHSDC has been a member of the NeighborWorks America since 1986.  NeighborWorks America has been one of NHSDC's strongest working partners during the last twenty six years. 


NHSDC also partnered with the Meadows Foundation back in 1992 to start its first Small Business Lending Program in Dimmit County, Texas.  Meadows Foundation assisted NHSDC with Capacity Building funds which was the start for all NHSDC Micro-lending Programs consisting from Consumer Lending, Home Improvement Lending, Healthy Food Initiative Lending and Small Business Development Lending.

 

NHSDC is a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) established in 1986.  This certification is awarded through United States Department of Treasury.  NHSDC is a two time recipient of CDFI funding and has extensive experience with performance based funding requirements through other grant programs undertaken with federal and nonprofit grantors over the years.  These grantors include the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Small Business Administration, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, NeighborWorks America and the Housing Assistance Council.


NHSDC has also partnered with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the start up of NHSDC's Agri Plex Green House Farms which entails the growing of healthy vegetables hydroponically and aquaponically. The creation of Agri Plex Green House Farm project has been the spin off of several diversified projects such as a local farmers' market, and a monthly newsletter focusing on Learning Healthy Eating Guidelines edited by Ms. Vanessa Estrada.  Ms. Estrada is a Registered Dietitian currently teaching at the University of Texas at San Antonio.  She is received a Bachelor's Degree  from The University of Texas at San Antonio and a Master's Degree from the University of the Incarnate Word.

 

ED/HUD has played a significant role in providing NHSDC with infrastructure development funds for the development of two (2) twenty single family subdivisions in Dimmit County, Texas.  NHSDC developed the subdivisions, constructed the single family homes therefore selling them to local residents at affordable rates.


Another partner of NHSDC that played a significant role in the development of housing in rural south Texas is the Housing Assistance Council (HAC).  HAC has assisted NHSDC with construction monies as interim financing for the construction of approximately thirty (30) homes.  NHSDC leverages other funding from private financing such as through participating banks or credit unions.


NHSDC has also partnered with Business & Community Lenders of Texas (BCL of Texas)  in Austin, Texas for the financing of larger projects whereby tandem loans have been originated by both entities whereabouts it makes the deal feasible for the entrepreneurs eq. of such deals like restaurants, medical clinics, bowling alley and shopping centers.
